Game Recap – 5/17/25: Waunakee at Holmen
Waunakee’s offense came out swinging and never let up, cruising to a commanding 9-1 win over Holmen on Friday afternoon. Fueled by a five-run second inning and a strong outing from starting pitcher Luke Hurlebaus, the Warriors took control early and held off any hopes of a Viking comeback.
Waunakee racked up 10 hits in the win, with Colin Murphy leading the charge. The senior went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases, including a clutch double in the second that helped break the game open. Wes DuCharme and Ethan Prell also added two-hit performances, while DuCharme and Luke Hurlebaus each drove in a run.
On the mound, Hurlebaus earned the win with four solid innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five. James Radabaugh closed things out, tossing three shutout frames and fanning four.
Holmen struggled to generate offense, managing only four hits on the day. Abe Henderson accounted for half of them, including a pair of doubles, and Brennon Metzler drove in the team’s lone run in the fourth. Defensive miscues also plagued the Vikings, who committed five errors.
Noah Oswald took the loss for Holmen, giving up five runs on six hits in just one inning of work. Three relievers combined to finish the game, but Waunakee continued to tack on insurance runs throughout.
The win improves Waunakee’s record as they continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. Holmen, meanwhile, will look to regroup and clean up defensive mistakes as they prepare for their next matchup.
