The Holmen boys varsity basketball team put on an offensive clinic Monday night, defeating Tomah 90-69 in a Mississippi Valley Conference matchup on the road.
Holmen came out firing in the first half, building a 41-34 lead, then extended their advantage with a 49-point second half to pull away from the Timberwolves.
Junior Jayden Bartels led all scorers with a game-high 32 points on an efficient 11-for-15 shooting performance. He was nearly unstoppable from beyond the arc, connecting on 8 of 10 three-point attempts while adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Sophomore Cohen Kendhammer added 13 points, while senior Alex Berget contributed 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The Vikings demonstrated balanced scoring with nine different players finding the scoreboard.
Holmen shot 54% from the field as a team, including an impressive 55% from three-point range (15-of-27). The Vikings also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Tomah 31-26.
For Tomah, junior Quinn Gerke led the Timberwolves with 30 points on 13-of-24 shooting, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Holmen’s balanced attack.
The victory improves Holmen’s conference record as they continue their season. The Vikings return to action Saturday at the Midwest Players Classic down at the La Crosse Center. The Vikings will take on the Amery Warriors at 10:45. More information can be found at https://www.midwestplayersclassic.com/
