Holmen Vikings

UW-RF Midwest Championships

The Midwest Championships at UW-River Falls on April 5, 2025, delivered an exceptional day for the Holmen Vikings. There were many great performances against high quality competition.

Sabrina Lechnir and Spencer Lowman had exceptional days in the long distance events. Sabrina nearly set the 1600m junior class record indoors, and won the 3200m in a smart race. Spencer earned a PR in the 3200m run by over 10 seconds!

Sprints and Hurdles Dominate:

Lydia Lazarescu and Abry Bloyer continued their strong season, securing two of the top three spots again in the 60m Dash. Jakai Ayed won the 60m Hurdles, and shattered his own school record.

Alivia Wickstrom finished 2nd in the hurdles, and  Ryland Eickhoff achieved a personal record in the 60m Dash and placed 3rd in the 200m dash after a 20 minute turnaround from prelims and finals. Two athletes took on a tough challenge in the 400. Delilah Heacox ran sub 1:05 twice within an hour, and Jack Barth won the 400m Dash, clocking in at 52.50 and 52.09 in under an hour.

Distance and Relays Deliver:

Beyond Spencer and Sabrina’s performances, Matt Hoff continued his record-setting season, scoring points in both the 1600m and 3200m. Naomi Wedan and Ruby Kinsman earned significant team points with top-5 finishes in the 800m run. The boy’s 4x200m Relay team secured 2nd place overall, and a young girl’s 4x200m team earned valuable team points with an 8th-place finish in a competitive field. Another young girl’s relay team (4x400m) took 4th overall with impressive indoor splits. The boy’s 4x800m relay team finished a solid 3rd.

Jumps and Throws Shine:

Abry Bloyer achieved a personal record in the long jump, surpassing her previous best by over a foot. Jaren Nygren PR’d in the Long Jump and made finals while Jakai Ayed placed 3rd in the Long Jump with a PR. Bela Waters tied her personal record in the triple jump, despite a quick succession of six jumps. Kendall Kozlowski tied her personal record in the pole vault, placing 3rd. Battling illness, Brenna Schmidt delivered a strong performance in the finals, earning 2nd place in throws.

In the end, the girls team earned 1st place out of 18 teams and the boys earned 5th out of 21 teams. There were multiple strong schools from Wisconsin and Minnesota at this meet, so it is showing the depth of the Holmen Vikings on both teams. This was the last indoor meet of the season, and it brings excitement for outdoor!
