Holmen vs Tomah

Friday, May 9, 2025

The Holmen Varsity Vikings fought hard but came up short in a 5-3 loss to Tomah on Friday. Despite a late-game rally, Holmen couldn’t close the gap after falling behind in the early innings.

Tomah jumped ahead with a two-run second inning and added another run in the fifth to make it 3-0. Holmen’s offense struggled early, as they were only able to record one hit in the first six innings. However, the Vikings showed resilience, plating two runs in the seventh after a strong performance by McKenna McHugh, who was a standout with a 4-total base game.

Despite Holmen’s efforts, Tomah’s Alex Wall was effective on the mound, tossing 99 pitches and earning the win. Wall also contributed at the plate, with a home run and four total bases, leading the charge for Tomah’s offense.

Gabi Stuhr pitched a solid game for Holmen, going seven innings, striking out multiple batters, and allowing five runs on 12 hits, but she was tagged with the loss.

Holmen’s defense was tight, with McKenna McHugh and Gabi Stuhr leading the way, but a costly error in the sixth inning allowed Tomah to add an extra insurance run.

While the Vikings showed fight at the end, it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit, as Tomah sealed the 5-3 victory.
