MISSISSIPPI VALLEY CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Mississippi Valley Conference Championships on May 17th at UW-La Crosse proved to be an unforgettable day for our track and field teams. Both the boys and girls took home the conference title! The girls have now one back-to-back championships while the boys won the MVC for the first time! The meet is a combination of Varsity and JV and a great day for the whole team to compete.

Alivia Wickstrom made a huge contribution for the girls by winning the 300m hurdles on a diving finish! Also, she placed second in the 100m hurdles and led off the 4x400m relay team that secured the title. Lahna Bloyer had huge day by setting a new PR in all 3 events she competed in and setting new JV conference records in the 100m and 300m hurdles.

Kyle Dreyer took a big step forward in the discus where he broke 150 ft. for the first time and secured 3rd place. He has had a 19 ft. improvement in the past week. Landon Barg was strong for the JV athletes where he won the 100m dash and High Jump. His 100m dash time would have placed in the Varsity section. He also placed 3rd in the 200 and 2nd in the 400.

Our Girls’ Track & Field team delivered a truly spectacular performance, securing their second consecutive Mississippi Valley Conference Championship title! Every individual athlete scored for the team! Lydia Lazarescu had an incredible sprint sweep, claiming 1st place in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes. Sabrina Lechnir demonstrated exceptional endurance earning 1st place in both the 1600m and 3200m events. With that, the 1600m race was a clean sweep for our girls, with Sabrina taking 1st, Ruby Kinsman securing 2nd, and Naomi Wedan finishing strong in 3rd place. The team garnered an impressive 7 individual 1st Team All-Conference awards, 4 individual 2nd Team All-Conference awards, and 5 individual Honorable Mention All-Conference awards. Our relays were consistently strong, with the team placing within the top 3 in all 4 relays, including 2 conference titles. Overall, the day was a testament to individual growth for JV and Varsity, with 40 individual personal records (PRs) set. Notably, 7 athletes achieved double PRs, and an incredible 2 athletes (Lahna Bloyer and Ella Everson) recorded TRIPLE PRs on the day!

Making history, our Boys’ Track & Field team clinched their first-ever Mississippi Valley Conference Championship title! Ryland Eickhoff dominated the short sprints, winning both the 100m and 200m dashes and coming from behind in the 4×200 for 2nd. Jakai Ayed and Braedin Grandt delivered a powerful one-two punch in the hurdle events, placing 1st and 2nd in both hurdle races. Peyton Peterson placed in both the 100 and 200 while anchoring the 4×100 that missed out on 1st by .01 seconds. Eli Kane, John Faherty, and Jaren Nygren were in both the 4×200 and 4×100 teams that placed 2nd. Matt Hoff ran a tough 800 and narrowly missed out on beating the defending champion. Jacob Simmons and Jack Barth placed high in the 400 and both they and Jon Rosenow ran 51 second splits in the 4×400 to help the team get 2nd. The 4×800 team also placed second with Dylan Whiteaker, Casey Horman, Mason Moss, and Andre de la Rosa all running strong times! The boys’ team also earned significant recognition, with 4 individual 1st Team All-Conference awards, 5 individual 2nd Team All-Conference awards, and 3 individual Honorable Mention All-Conference awards. The boys’ team also saw a remarkable number of personal achievements, with 52 individual PRs set throughout the meet. An impressive 10 athletes achieved double PRs, and 3 athletes pushed themselves to achieve triple PRs on this historic day.

The Mississippi Valley Conference Championships were a resounding success for our track and field program. We had been working all season to be at our best and be the top of the conference. The Girls’ team’s back-to-back championship title and the Boys’ team’s historic first-ever championship are a representation of our athletes and coaches’ hard work. Congratulations to all the athletes on an outstanding performance and a truly memorable day!
