It was a perfect day for lacrosse as the Lightning team traveled to Elkhorn, WI to take on the Elkhorn Elks and the Kenosha Shoremen in double header action at Elkhorn Area High School.

The Lightning Let One Slide…

The Elks had home-field advantage in the first contest, as the Lightning struggled to find their footing on the short artificial turf at Elkhorn Area High School. Often looking like Bambi on ice, they frequently lost their footing on both offense and defense. As a result, the Lightning had a 7-0 deficit at the end of the first period. The contest was well out of hand the rest of the way with the Lightning down 13-3 at halftime. The Lightning managed another couple of goals in the final half to lose 17-5. Elkhorn improves to 9 wins to 2 losses on the season. Lightning drops to 3 wins and 5 losses on the season.

The Lightning Find Their Footing…

The second contest featured a grass field where the Lightning squad found its footing. They squared off against the #16 ranked Shoremen from Kenosha. A fast start led to a 6-2 lead after the first period. The teams traded goals in the second quarter for a 7-3 advantage for the Lightning. The Shoremen scored two goals to start the third period to get within two goals, but the Lightning had enough in reserves to pull away in the fourth period to win 13-7. The Lightning improve their record to 4 wins to 5 losses, while the Kenosha Shoremen drop to 10 wins and 4 losses on the season.

The Lightning Lacrosse team is a varsity level WIAA sanctioned seven school co-op hosted by La Crosse Central and comprised of the following schools: La Crosse Aquinas, Onalaska Luther, Crosse Central, La Crosse Logan, Holmen, Onalaska, and West Salem. The Lightning plays as an independent team this year and will be part of the Badger Conference in the 2026 season.
