Holmen Vikings

June 10, 2025

The Holmen Vikings baseball team saw their 2025 playoff run come to an end Monday afternoon, falling 5-1 to Sun Prairie East in sectional play. Despite a valiant effort, the Vikings couldn’t overcome the Cardinals’ strong pitching and timely power hitting.

Sun Prairie East jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added two more in the third. The Cardinals were led by the Glusick brothers, with Max going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Cam delivered a crucial two-run homer. Reed Saugstad also contributed to the Cardinals’ offense, scoring twice and collecting a hit.

Holmen’s lone run came in the fourth inning when Abe Henderson doubled and later scored on Brennon Metzler’s sacrifice fly. The Vikings managed just four hits against Cardinals pitcher Joey Tamboli, who went the distance with seven strikeouts while scattering four hits and walking five.

Noah Oswald and Tyler Rosenow each collected singles for Holmen, while Brayden Wall added a pinch-hit single late in the game. Despite putting runners on base with five walks, the Vikings struggled to string together hits against Tamboli’s effective pitching.

Aaron Ploszay took the loss for Holmen, allowing four runs (three earned) over 2⅔ innings. Paul Goryl provided solid relief, giving up just one run over 3⅓ innings while striking out four.

The loss ends Holmen’s season, while Sun Prairie East advances in the WIAA tournament. The Vikings can hold their heads high after a competitive season that saw them reach sectional play.
