Holmen Uses Mid-Inning Surge, Sharp Pitching to Down Central 5-1
April 24, 2025
LA CROSSE, Wis. — Behind a pair of timely rallies and a dominant start from Aaron Ploszay, the Holmen Vikings topped the Central Red Raiders 5-1 on Thursday night.
Scoreless through three, Holmen (1-0) struck for three runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth, capitalizing on a brief wild stretch from Central starter Erik Ramseier. Tyler Rosenow delivered the biggest blow, driving in three runs on a pair of singles to pace Holmen’s balanced 10-hit attack.
Ploszay was sharp on the mound, tossing five innings of one-run ball. The right-hander struck out six while allowing just four hits and keeping Central hitters off balance with a 65% first-pitch strike rate. Josiah Kulmaczewski closed the door with two clean innings, earning the save.
Key Inning
Holmen broke open a tight game in the fourth when Abe Henderson sparked a rally with a double. After a single from Rosenow plated two runs, Braeden Linse added an RBI knock to make it 3-1. In the fifth, Joe Meeter and Nolan Mashak singled and later scored on another Rosenow single.
Offensive Highlights
Holmen’s lineup had production throughout, with six players recording hits. Meeter, Henderson, Rosenow, Linse, and Mashak all had multi-hit or multi-RBI contributions, while the team posted a .382 on-base percentage overall.
For Central, Derrick Pangier stood out with two hits and an RBI, while Dawson Lapic reached base three times and scored the team’s only run.
Defensive Clean Sheet
Holmen played error-free baseball, highlighted by strong infield work from Brennon Metzler and solid catching by Noah Oswald, who handled a pitching staff that allowed just five hits and four walks.
Pitching Summary
Ramseier (0-1) took the loss for Central, surrendering five runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. Despite a decent strikeout-to-walk ratio (3 Ks, 1 BB), Holmen’s patience and situational hitting proved too much.
What’s Next
Holmen looks to carry the momentum into their next matchup, while Central will aim to bounce back behind improved offensive consistency and a reset on the mound.
