Holmen vs Central

Tuesday, May 6, 2025

In a tightly contested matchup on Tuesday, the Holmen Varsity Vikings fell 2-0 to La Crosse Central in a classic pitcher’s duel that was decided by one big inning.

Both teams were locked in a scoreless battle through the first three innings. Holmen’s Gabi Stuhr pitched a strong game, throwing 77 pitches with 50 strikes and allowing just four hits and two earned runs while facing 24 batters. Unfortunately, a two-run fourth inning by La Crosse Central proved to be the difference.

Offensively, Holmen was limited to three hits, including a double by Josie Happel, who accounted for two total bases. Macy Kline and Kaylee Mosser added singles, but the Vikings couldn’t capitalize, stranding runners and getting caught stealing twice.

La Crosse Central’s pitcher Carmen Peterson was sharp, throwing 79 pitches (58 strikes) and holding Holmen scoreless, despite the Vikings putting runners on base.

It was a tough loss for Holmen in a game where runs were at a premium, and both teams played clean defense with just one error each. The Vikings will look to bounce back offensively in their next contest.
