Holmen vs Aquinas

Thursday, April 24, 2025

The Holmen Varsity Vikings edged out the Aquinas Blugolds 7-5 on Thursday in a tight contest defined by early scoring and late-game tension.

Holmen jumped ahead quickly with a 3-run first inning and added another in the second. They struck again in the fifth with three more runs, capitalizing on five Aquinas errors and aggressive base running. Macy Kline led the offense, going for four total bases including a double and a stolen base. Kaylee Mosser also doubled and contributed three total bases, while McKenna McHugh and Makenzie Nunemacher chipped in with solid performances at the plate and on the basepaths.

Aquinas mounted a rally with a 4-run second inning, but couldn’t sustain the momentum. They added a run in the seventh to cut the deficit to two but ultimately came up short. Abby Ziolkowski stood out for the Blugolds with a double and three total bases, while also pitching a full game with 97 pitches across 33 batters faced.

Holmen’s Gabi Stuhr pitched through adversity, working 104 pitches over 31 batters while managing to limit Aquinas to just six hits. Defensive miscues on both sides kept the game unpredictable, but Holmen’s early offense and base running proved the difference.

With the win, Holmen snaps a three-game skid and looks to build momentum moving forward.
