WIAA SECTIONAL – VERONA

The sectional track meet on May 30th proved to be a historic day for the Holmen Vikings track and field team in Verona, as both the girls’ and boys’ squads delivered with the girls bringing home their first Sectional Title since 1984 and the boys placing 3rd! The Vikings are now set to descend upon UW-La Crosse for the Wisconsin state championship track meet with an unprecedented number of qualifiers, promising an exciting conclusion to their incredible season. The Vikings qualified in 18 of the 36 events between both genders and sent 26 athletes to the meet!

Kendall Kozlowski came up clutch for the girls. Her jump of 9’ 6” in the pole vault secured her opportunity to compete at the state meet. She has put in many hours this season, and it has paid off in a big way! Jack Barth was integral in the success of all 3 boys relays that went to state. His anchor leg of the 4×400 was the highlight of the meet where he passed 2 runners in the last 100m to secure a state berth and ran a 49.22 split!

The Holmen girls’ team exhibited incredible performances all around, culminating in a Sectional Championship. Junior sensation Lydia Lazarescu led the charge, becoming a three-event Sectional Champion with dominant victories in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and the anchor of the 4x100m relay. Lydia will be defending her state titles in the 100 and 200. Not far behind, Alivia Wickstrom demonstrated her own remarkable abilities, qualifying for State in three events (100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and 4x100m relay). A true testament to their resilience, the 4x800m Relay team broke through to qualify for State, coming within a mere second of the school record. In a truly historic feat, the Holmen girls’ program will send 15 qualifiers to the State meet, the most in SCHOOL HISTORY! 

The Holmen boys’ team continued their impressive season, with strong performances securing their spot at the State meet with 11 qualifiers across 7 events. Sophomore standout Jakai Ayed was a two-event Sectional Champion who had a PR of over 1 ft setting a new school record in the long jump! Jakai qualified for state in an incredible four events! The sprint relays once again demonstrated their prowess, with the 4x100m relay clocking the 5th best time in school history and a Junior class record. The 4x200m relay achieved the 2nd best time in school history, while the 4x400m relay secured the 6th best time in school history. All 3 qualified the for the state meet.

The Holmen Vikings have truly outdone themselves, and the excitement is building as they prepare to compete at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships. Their dedication, talent, and team spirit have paved the way for what promises to be a memorable State appearance! We are proud of all the accomplishments, and we are excited to finish on a high note!
