The Aquinas Blugolds used a big fifth inning to pull away from the visiting Holmen Vikings, earning an 8–3 win on Monday, May 19.
After falling behind 1–0 in the top of the first, Aquinas responded in the third with two runs before exploding for four more in the fifth to seize control. Jacob Thornton delivered the key blow with a bases-clearing hit that plated three, finishing the day with one hit, two walks, and three RBIs.
Isaac Schelfhout contributed both on the mound and at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while also pitching 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six. Jonny Deets came on in relief to secure the final five outs and pick up the save, also adding two hits and an RBI at the plate.
Holmen was led by Joe Meeter, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and two RBIs. However, the Vikings couldn’t recover after a series of fielding miscues and a tough fifth inning. Starter Aaron Ploszay took the loss, surrendering four earned runs over 4 1/3 innings.
Aquinas improves their momentum with this solid team performance, showing strength both offensively and on the mound.
